Starter for 10 What is unique about the trophy this year?

A moment to note for fans of FA Cup trivia quizzes: today’s final is the first in 115 years to feature a pre-etched trophy. With the two Manchester clubs meeting in a final for the first time, organisers asked the official trophy engravers to etch the “Manchester” part of the winners’ name in advance ( below), with “City” or “United” to be tacked on later – a break from the tradition of having the name added in the days or weeks after the game. The lack of big derbies in the final – no meetings between clubs from Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham or Bristol – mean the chance to start crafting early has never arisen before. Kevin Baker, CEO of the engraving firm Thomas Lyte, called it “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” for his company. “Each stroke of the hand engraving tools symbolised the historical significance and immense anticipation surrounding this fiercely contested derby.”
