Last week, Rachel Cooke interviewed Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart, hosts of the podcast The Rest Is Politics. Here’s how readers responded online:
I don’t think you can underrate just how important the “odd couple” format is to this show, and I use that term quite literally: Campbell is a (slightly) less curmudgeonly Oscar, and Rory a (considerably) more likable Felix. You’re not tuning in for hot takes or appalling views. You just want to listen to Rory telling you things you didn’t know about the civil service, and
Alastair making fun of him because he doesn’t know a lot about sport.

I’ve been listening to the podcast from the start, initially out of curiosity, but I soon became a regular listener. My partner grudgingly tuned in, mumbling “can’t stand Campbell”, but is now an avid listener, and will often say: “Can’t we listen to the Rest Is Politics instead of the news?” Neddy69
The incredible contrast between Stewart – bright, self-effacing, engaging, empathic – and the scoundrel with whom we were lumbered by the Conservatives beggars belief. To top this off they then inflicted the idiot Truss on us. Doucede
A Tory Etonian and an apologist for someone who lied to parliament and started a war… What’s not to like? Marshallofcharlton
Are they really an odd couple? Both centre, both remainers, I imagine Rory respects Blair. It would be interesting to hear what they actually disagree on.
