If soaps are only as good as their villains then Waterloo Road has lucked out this year with impish Welsh schemer Myles. As well as trying to trigger Kelly Jo’s ADHD on her first day back in class, the peroxide provocateur expertly needles fostered brothers Mike and Joe about their birth mum trying to reconnect. It all makes for an explosive school day. GV

The British Soap Awards 2023 8pm, ITV1

Sure, the absence of original host Phillip Schofield will be the elephant in the room – and the reason many people will be tuning in. But if anyone cares about the actual awards: the Platts, Millars, Slaters, Dingles and McQueens are all fighting it out for best family in soapland. HR
