Pick of the Day Chris Packham: Is It Time to Break the Law?

Pick of the Day Secrets of Our Universe With Tim Peake

Channel 5, 9pm

Tim Peake is a very nice man who knows a great deal about space, which makes him the perfect choice of host for this very nice documentary series. Could there be life beyond Earth? That’s the ultimate question here, starting with a tour of the Milky Way – which involves flying over York in a hot-air balloon – while sometimes reflecting on his own time as an astronaut (he saw 16 sunrises every day at the International Space Station).

Channel 4, 9pm

“I’ve always been terrified of prisons,” presenter Chris Packham – who is being touted as the next David Attenborough – told the Guardian recently, “[but] it would send a message, the whole Mandela thing.” In this hugely pressing documentary he asks whether it is now ethically OK to break the law to protest against government policies on the climate crisis. Andreas Malm is just one radical environmentalist with whom he speaks.

Pick of the Day Married at First Sight UK

Channel 4, 10pm

“This is my last time getting married. If it doesn’t work… we won’t be doing a third.” So says one of the 16 contestants ready to walk down the aisle with a total stranger. She also says she aims to “break necks” by turning heads when she walks into a room. It’s the eighth season of the UK leg of the MAFS franchise, and – with a concept that still doesn’t fail to blow the mind – it’s set to be as wild as ever. It’s also refreshing to see a dating show take a genuine approach to diverse casting, too.
